Gil Burstein
Gil Burstein sculpts complex, detailed, dynamic human figures in clay, bronze and iron. Born in Kibbutz Nirim, he lives and works in Tel Aviv. His work turns on emotion and relationship — between couples, between a person and their inner self, between the work and the viewer — and he deliberately leaves the viewer to form their own reading of what a figure is feeling.
"We are all born into this world naked and spend our lives trying to cover ourselves. The smooth, visually striking nudity of my figures celebrates the human body in a proud and unapologetic way. My sculptures are like frozen footprints in time."
Trained in industrial design at Shenkar (B.Des., 2003) and, since 2016, in figurative-realistic sculpture under Stephan Bokor. Solo pop-up exhibition at HaHalfanim, Old Jaffa (2025); group exhibitions in Tel Aviv, Netanya, Raanana, Rehovot, Bnei Brak, Vienna and New York; large-scale installations at Midburn and Burnerot since 2016. Mahadura's Edition 001 is produced with him from 3D scans of his original works.
